Ford took control of Mazda in 1996 in attempt to reach Asian markets. Mazda manufactured vehicles (Hiroshima, Hofu Japan) share many components with Ford vehicles built in the United States. There is a joint venture plant in the US which is laying off workers because of the economic crisis. This Flat Rock, Michigan plant makes all models who’s vehicle identification number does not start with a J. I really wanted to buy an American made car…I guess I will have to be satisfied with the fact that my purchase contributes to the overall wealth of Ford’s executives.

This is the interests of the multi-national corporation at the expense of the American public.
And there are Congressman who support the H-1B program too.

The heart of the doctrine of free will is that a person must accomplish tasks on his or her own. A community must achieve their dreams through their own talents and strengths. The H-1B program is starving the American middle class and importing the lifestyle–the values–held by India and China. The justification for this is competitiveness. This is not a demand. This is just a statement of fact: If you get rid of the H-1B system, I will sell my Mazda and buy a Ford truck made in America.

As I approach the mid-life of the Mazda I purchased, the grade is in: My style of driving the Mazda has yielded a year of free gasoline. My justification is the factory mileage estimate of 21 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. I have driven the Mazda 5 almost exclusively in the city using the climate control system liberally. Over almost 3.5 years my mileage is ~29mpg. This translates to a year of free gas and a substantially lower gas cost than that listed in the “www.fuelecononmy.gov” website. As the cost of gas increases I will only save more!
