“Tonight” – Tony and Maria

West Side Story (film)

The Song of Songs 2:1 I am the rose of Sharon, the lily of the valleys.

Isaiah 52:1 Awake, awake! Clothe yourself in strength, Zion. Put on your richest clothes, Jerusalem, holy city; since no longer shall there enter you either the uncircumcised or the unclean. 2 Shake off your dust; to your feet, captive Jerusalem! Free your neck from its fetters, captive daughter of Zion. 3 Yes, Shaddai ‘Elyon’ says this: You were sold for nothing and you will be redeemed without money. 4 Yes, Shaddai ‘Elyon’ says this: Once my people went to Egypt to settle there, then Assyria bitterly oppressed them. 5 But now what is there for me here?–it is Shaddai ‘Elyon’ who speaks–now that many people have been carried off for nothing, and their masters shout their triumph–it is Shaddai ‘Elyon’ who speaks–all day long my name is constantly blasphemed. 6 My people will therefore know my name; that day they will understand that it is I who say, ‘I am here’. 7 How beautiful on the mountains, are the feet of one who brings good news, who heralds peace, beings happiness, proclaims salvation, and tells Zion, ‘Your God is king!’ 8 Listen! Your watchmen raise their voices, they shout for you together, you ruins of Jerusalem; for Shaddai ‘Elyon’ is consoling his people, redeeming Jerusalem. 10 Shaddai ‘Elyon’ bares his holy arm in the sight of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God. 11 ‘Go away, go away, leave that place, touch nothing unclean. Get out of her, purify yourselves, you who carry the vessels of Shaddai ‘Elyon’. 12 ‘But you are not to hurry away, you are not to leave like fugitives. No, Shaddai ‘Elyon’ will go in front of you, and the God of Israel will be your rearguard.’

St. Ambrose, Bishop, Doctor of the Church (Memorial)
First Reading: Isaiah 35:1-10
Psalm: Psalm 85:9-14
Gospel: Luke 5:17-26
Isaiah 35: 1 – 10
———————————————————————-
1 The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad, the desert shall
rejoice and blossom; like the crocus
2 it shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice with joy and singing. The
glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, the majesty of Carmel and
Sharon. They shall see the glory of the LORD, the majesty of our
God.
3 Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the FEEBLE KNEES.
4 Say to those who are of a fearful heart, “Be strong, fear not!
Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of
God. He will come and save you.”
5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the
deaf unstopped;
6 then shall the lame man leap like a hart, and the tongue of the
dumb sing for joy. For waters shall break forth in the wilderness,
and streams in the desert;
7 the burning sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground
springs of water; the haunt of jackals shall become a swamp, the
grass shall become reeds and rushes.
8 And a highway shall be there, and it shall be called the Holy Way;
the unclean shall not pass over it, and fools shall not err
therein.
9 No lion shall be there, nor shall any ravenous beast come up on it;
they shall not be found there, but the redeemed shall walk there.
10 And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with
singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall
obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
