heaven and HEAVENs

Hosea 2:14 That is why I am going to lure her
and lead her out into the wilderness
and speak to her heart.
15 I am going to give her back her vineyards,
and make the Valley of Achor a gateway of hope.
There she will respond to me as she did when she was young,
as she did when she came out of the land of Egypt.

16 “When that day comes,” declares the LORD,
“you will call me `my husband’;
you will no longer call me `my master’.”
17 I will remove the names of the Baals from her lips;
no longer will their names be invoked.
18 In that day I will make a covenant for them
with the beasts of the field and the birds of heaven
and the creatures that move along the ground.
Bow and sword and battle
I will abolish from the land,
so that all may lie down in safety.
19 I will betroth you to me forever;
I will betroth you with integrity and justice,
in love and compassion.
20 I will betroth you in faithfulness,
and you will come to know the TRIUNE GOD.

21 When that day comes–it is the TRIUNE GOD who speaks–
the heavens will have their answer from me,
the earth its answer from them,
22 the grain, the wine, the oil, their answer from the earth,
and Jezreel his answer[u] from them.
23 I will sow him in the country, I will love unloved;
I will say to no-people-of-mine,
`You are my people’,
and they will answer, `You are my TRIUNE GOD’.

On page 1455 of The Jerusalem Bible, there is the following note:
[u]Lit. `I shall answer the HEAVENs, they will answer the earth’ etc. The name Jezreel no longer recalls the crimes of earlier days, 1:4+, but now justifies its etymology, `God sows’, cf. v.25, and stands for an Israel restored and prosperous. This Jezreel pleads, as it were, with the produce of the soil, which plea is passed to earth and sky and finally to God who grants it.
